I'm Nyongesa Staus Okumu, Born and raised in Kenya,Kakamega county. I was born in a humble background, I went to a local primary School where I studied for the entire 8 years The whole 8 years in Primary school was a huge burden to my guardian considering the situation at hand? I never wore shoes until I joined high school. Every step I made in life was only but a struggle,I vividly remember how I was out of classroom doors several times due to school fees in my local high school. Finally I matriculated to a renowned Private university in Kenya. It’s during the university level that I started my decoration Business together with my Friends, I being the sole owner of the business.
My Business started back in 2014 with few individuals as owners of the company(Sponsors ). I collected some few coins from my friends ,family members not forgetting well wishers. I start by thanking Zidisha family for this far I have come. Much appreciations.
Having hired a land, prepared and planted the sugarcane, it is now time to weed. Sugar cane farming is our major cash crop in our area, so this funds will enable me to start preparing the land for planting with hope that my limit will increase so that I can manage to plant and pay labor, Thank you so much , I’m really looking forward to your support on this
Crop-weed competition occurs during early phase of sugarcane growth, if these weeds are not controlled in the critical period, the yield reduction of sugarcane ranges between 20 to 40 percent. Inefficient weed management is an important threat to sugarcane productivity.
For that reason I have started the process so early, planting was done in the month of August. The delayed germination, slow initial growth, wide row space and enough supply of nutrients of the crop provides favorable conditions for different weed species infestation. The weed infestation is always a major problem which seriously reduces the yield of sugarcane.
It has been estimated that weeds can cause 12 to 72 percent reduction in yield depending on the severity of infestation. Weed infestation is one the most dominant constraints in sugarcane production. If these weeds are not controlled from very beginning the reduction in sugarcane yield may be as high as 10-70 percent.
Since this project is promising, it will be unfair if weed control is not done at early stage of sugarcane growth.
I have positive hopes that the funds I will receive from your generous contributions will help greatly on this project.
