My name is Silvia Wanjiku Kamau, born in 1984 in Rironi Village, Limuru District, Kiambu County in Kenya. I started school in 1988 at Rironi Nursery and later had my primary education at Wangige Primary School where I sat for my K.C.P.E. I proceeded for my secondary education at Mary Leakey Girls High School and sat for my K.C.S.E in the year 2001 and attained grade C- in the same. I am married and am a mother of 3 children. Currently, I am a farmer in Kinangop where I rear cows, sheep, chicken and grow a variety of crops for both subsistence and commercial use.
Currently, I have 2 dairy cows which produce an average milk of 20 kg per day which I sell to Muki Farmers Co-operative Society at KSh 600 per day amounting to KSh 18,000 per month. This is equivalent to approximately $175. In addition, I rear 10 chickens which lay one tray of eggs per week which tabulates to 30 dollars per month. Also, I grow a variety of crops including potatoes and French beans for which, on average, I get 300 dollars after 3 months. My monthly expenses amount to 100 dollars per month as my husband is employed temporarily and caters for most of the expenses including upkeep of the family. In most cases, we save the income we get from farming or in developing our home.
