I am Kenedy Otieno aged 34 year old from Kaptembwa Nakuru. I was born the third in a family of 5 at Kaptembwa slum, at Nakuru City. My father was a mason while my mother used to sell groceries at the estate.

They worked hard to ensure we hard food to eat. We all went to a public primary school in the neighborhood. It was very congested as most public schools in slums. I completed my primary education and joined a highschool in the neiborhood. I scored a B+ and joined Masinde Muriru University. I joined the university with the help of the community fundings commonly known as Harambee. My siblings were not fortunate to join college due to lack of funds. After 4 years I graduated with a pharmacy degree. I got employed in a private hospital for 4 years as I saved to start my pharmacy in Kaptembwa slum. The main reason I settled on the location is to give back to those who helped get the degree through their financial contributions through Harambee and their prayers.

I sell medicine to patients in the neighborhood. Medicine is very essential yet very expensive. Due to the frequent outbreaks of infections in my neighborhood, I decided to come up with a way to assist them. Malaria and stomach infections is very common in informal settlements or low income estates like Kaptembwa. I sell the medicine relatively lower so they can all afford. I use the profit to support my family who played a big role in my education. I also use some of the profit to donate to Harambee helping the needy to access education like they did to me.

The funds I will raise will be used to expand my business so I can have a fully operational hospital in future. This will help my community access better health care, create employment and increase my income.

I will use the funds to buy more medicine to serve more people in my community. Apart from helping many people in the community, my business will also grow leading to more profit to support my family.
