My name is Risper Ochieng. I lost my parents to accident when I was in class 8. I was taken to stay with my uncle and my little sister went with my mother's sister. This informal adaption happens often in our community.
My uncle's wife (the auntie) decided to mistreat me and overworking me as her children did no work. She could beat me for no reason. One day I ran away and decided to join the street families. I stayed in the streets for 3 years until one day a lady I was begging for food asked me why I was in the streets.
After telling her my story, she offered to take me with her. She was an orphan too and had experienced the same ordeal when young. She opened a small eatery for me that sold chai and mandazi. I have grown the business over the years now I have almost all cheap foods that people in my low income estate prefers. I have been very generous to street children always giving them something to eat. Some have developed a hobby of coming every evening to get some leftovers.
I sell food in a small hotel at kariobangi. I sell food like ugali madodo, omena, samosa etc. I use the money from the business to pay for my bills, reinvest back expanding the business and well as funding my hobby of feeding few street children. Being in the streets once, ni understand how it feels to sleep hungry.
I will use the funds to increase the stock in my hotel. This will grow my business and I will have more money for my family and the street children who depends on me.. your support will not only help me but the street families as well.
