My name is Joan chepkoech 29 years old first born of a family of 5 children 3 girls and 2 boys. I was born and raised at Mathare slum in Nairobi city. My parents worked as casual workers doing a mixture of jobs to sustain us in school. Thanks to free primary education in public schools, I finished my primary education without much troubles from Mathare primary school. I later joined highschool and scored a C+.
Finishing highschool was troublesome due to lack of finances. My parents could not afford to take me to college and that was the end of my education. I got employed in a local hotel until 2020 when we were laid off due to the Corona Pandemic. I later began online businesses where I started selling pure honey marketing my business on social media.
I sell pure honey from Kitui to my clients at Nairobi. The pure honey from the bush also serves as herbal medicine. I have created a relationship with farmers in kitui where I usually get my honey pack it, brand it and sell at a hire price.
With many illnesses due to processed sugars, people have resulted in natural honey as an alternative. It's in a high demand. I use the proceeds of the business to assist my parents and my siblings and also increase my stock. Once a month I visit a nearby orphanage with few treats for the kids and honey which has great medicinal uses especially against respiratory infections.
I will use the funds to increase my stock and enhance my delivery system to reach many people. This will result to more profit for me to help my family and create employment to the farmers and the persons who helps with branding and delivery. The children at the orphanage will also smile more as I will have more money to help them.
