Having been born and raised at a rural background, I have a passion for farming; I have passion fruits (yellow and purple) and ribena (tomato trees) fruits, both of which have an insatiable market locally and regionally. I am also an entrepreneur, supplying eggs to all the retail and wholesale shops in my area of residence. Farming is not only a hobby and passion but also my largest income earner. I farm sweet yellow passion, purple passion fruits and tomato tree (ribena) fruits. The fruits rake in a combined monthly gross profit of 380 USD. The fruits have an insatiable domestic market, fetching fairly high prices per kilogram e.g. during the high season, the purple passion fruits go for 1.2USD, the sweet yellow passions for about 1.5USD and the tomato tree fruits go for 1.8USD. In the high end market, including chain stores and fruit juice making companies, the fruits fetch even higher prices.

I also run an eggs’ supply business in my area of residence in Nairobi; I supply almost all hotels, retail and wholesale shops with eggs. I am supplied with not less than 30 trays of eggs per week, a number I seek to increase to 50 with the growing demand for the eggs. I have rented out a room which I use for storage purposes, where the eggs can be stored in large quantities for ease and efficiency in supplying my customers. I rent the room for 40USD per month. The eggs’ supply business makes 50USD per month, an amount I can comfortably rise with increased supply of eggs.

I also have a keen interest in the international money markets and world markets, which has seen me study the stock exchanges and the forex market. I would like to invest in both the stocks and forex markets in future.

Following my first loan application, successful funding and repayment, I hereby seek funding for my second loan. In the past two and a half months, my fruit farming (sweet yellow and purple passions) and eggs' supply businesses have experienced high growth especially due to the increased watering regimes, after the farm's piping.

This being the high season, the tomato tree fruits are fetching between 1.5 USD and 1.8 USD per kg whereas the passion fruits, with increased yields, are bringing in more profits. However, in order to access the high end market which includes the fruit juice making and chain stores (supermarkets), which mostly involves competitive bidding for tenders, I will have to register a business at a cost of 60 USD.

To further improve the yields, am planning to buy manure and fertilizers for the farm; a lorry/ truck of chicken manure (which is the most recommended type) costs 235 USD and two 50 kg sacks of D.A.P and C.A.N fertilizer at a cost of 60 USD.

I will maintain the two farm hands who assist me and employ another casual to assist the already existing one in the eggs' supply business. The costs incurred for renumeration of the casuals per month amounts to 285 USD. As of last month, both businesses raked in a gross profit of 510 USD, with the fruits making more than the eggs i.e. 430USD; I have been ploughing back the eggs' profits into the business while that from the fruits has been going to loan repayment, overhead costs, domestic costs and savings.
