Derrick Muchima is my name. I live in Mungule area in Lusaka. I was born and bred in this town.
I went to Moomba Primary School, from there my dream begin to be realized in my life.
I started growing different types of vegetables when I was at the age of 10, while doing my Primary level.
It was through the selling of these vegetables did I realize my dream of completing my education as sponsorship was very hard for me, when I lost my parents at tender age.
I became and liberated myself from financial hardships through vegetable crop farming that helped me complete my secondary education and took me to college to study Agribusiness.
It was through starting up a vegetable garden business that has made me have a bigger picture and concentrate expanding the vegetable crop business today.
Am planning to educate my children and I want them to become medical doctors and lawyers as I want to go the University of Zambia.
During my leisure time I go swimming , watching football and of course farming and watering of the crops in the vegetable gardens.
I provide a variety of vegetable for sell to the community and the general public at large.
There are rape, cabbages, Chinese, carrots, onions, tomatoes, spinach, Lettice, okra.
These good I sell, are very useful in our day to day life as they are consumable every day and most people business for industry business unit cant do without these products.
I went to farming of vegetables because vegetables are highly consumable and on demand.
Hence I also make generate good money and profits. Being that they are perishable goods, I sell them very fast on my targeted market.
So far I have invested, K25,000 to buy a bigger land for growing and farming these vegetables.
The profits made are used to buy farming inputs, such as fertilizer, pesticides and watering system at the farm, home improvement and growth of the business.
With funds am applying for, I propose to buy organic fertilizer and pesticides. The organic fertilizer will help me to have a crop production of my vegetables such cabbages, rape, onions, tomatoes, okra, cucumbers, carrots and green bean. I will benefit a lot from organic fertilizer because it will help me in growth of these vegetables profitably. In addition to that the pesticides will help me to destroy the aphides and army worms destroying my crops and have good harvest for sale and produce a good turn over, therefore improve the lives of my family and children and impacting my community by consuming good health vegetables.
