My name is Damaris Okwuosa, I am a graduate teacher, a mother and a small scale business woman. I also engage in charity work whenever I have funds. Am the 6th child in my family. Raised by my mom. I got interested in business to be able to substitute the income that I get from my day job. This has helped to supplement the needs of my children and some of the people who benefit from the charity donations that I am able to make. I enrolled and completed a business mentorship program sponsored by UNITAR AND ABSA. Through this program I was mentored and able to manage my small business well and balance it well with my day job.
I have been selling small fish,( omena) or dagaa in my neighborhood. I do this on small scale. I get a profit of about Ksh7,000/-per month. This business helps me to manage expenses in my house, am able to provide basic utilities for my children. I also started a new side business; food related. I prepare snacks(mandazi) for school going children ,these snacks sell very well in the morning. This has helped me to expand my income a little bit and to cushion me in the tough economic times.
Am also gaining more experience on how to grow my business. I hope that in the near future I shall be able to expand my business and get moreopportunities and an Increased customer base.
This year has been good. I have achieved a lot through Zidisha. I intend to use these funds to do the following
Buy a small printer for printing my revision material. I would also like to acquire, prepare and package spices for sell. this is a holiday festive season and spices sell a lot. I will make 50%profit from this venture which shall help me repay my loan and also save some for future investments.
Whenever I have free time on weekends I shall use the funds to prepare pastry and sell through the local shops and eateries .My backers kindly support my goal
