I am the third born in a family of six. I went to a girls boarding primary school and later went to secondary school where i passed and was selected to join Egerton University - Njoro Campus where i graduated with a BSc. Natural Resources Management. Due to my large family i mainly got by using bursaries and loan from the Higher Education Loans Board. 4 years after graduating i.e. 2004 i was lucky to be employed in an Environmental Consultancy Firm where i was able to gain skills in Ms Word, Ms Excel, Internet, printing, photocopy, binding, lamination. I have excellent typing skills at 50 wpm.
I have two children boy (8) and girl (going to 6 in January) who observe what i do on a daily basis and i am sure would like to be independent when they grow up.
I like to talk and help women who may need my help. especially when it comes to environmental management.
I am registered by the National Environment Management Authority to conduct Environmental Impact Assessments and Environmental Audits for proponents who would like to start any kind of development. From the income from the Environmental consultancy i started a printing and photocopy business that is now doing very well. I have hired a young man who is yet to join University who is assisting with the business thus creating employment. The young man runs errands, conducts public participation and consulation, he delivers reports/licenses to clients, i am also teaching him banking and other office duties.
From the profits from the business, i buy photocopy papers at wholesale price, toner and cartdriges, airtime, electricity bills, internet bills. I also take time to have fun with my family to avoid being a dull mum.
With the loan, i will pay school fees in January (Boy 170 dollars or Kshs. 17,000 Joining Grade 2 and Girl 140 dollars or Kshs. 14,000 Joining PP2 - total 310 dollar or Kshs. 31,000). I will also buy a whole bunch of text books and other requirements like pencils, crayons, rubbers, rulers, sharpeners etc that the school has requested for. I will stock up on photocopy papers, binding covers, spirals, tapes, toners TK-1140 for my kyocera machine. Buying in bulk is cheaper and saves time than buying piecemeal.
I also plan to save a good amount for a rainy day (say 500dollars or Kshs. 50000)in the event that my business doesn't go well due to factors outside my control, this will enable me repay the loan.
I will buy bicycles for my kids..they have been asking for the longest time and i will finally have peace of mind. 2 hardy second-hand bicycles will cost 140 dollars or Kshs 14000.
