Hi, I am Fred Okinda, an enthusiast agribusiness entrepreneur with interest in fish farming and subsequent value addition along the value chain.
I am a lucky beneficiary of basic education from my country Kenya. It was all fun and flair up until I did my primary certificate national examination.
All through high school education, paying school fee was a challenge for my parents. It got even tougher after my mother who was the bread winner passed on when I was in form two. That did not deter me from achieving my goals.
After undertaking trainings as an aquaculture specialist and practitioner, I thought it would be prudent to run my own business by farming fish in cages in the lake(Victoria)
After thinking through, the production costs are way so high and therefore capital intensive. I therefore think owning a fish outlet is manageable with less risks involved.
I am into food vending business where I stock whole fish in deep freezer for purchase by clients.
As a substitute to read meat, fish has become a common meal in different household tables boasting high protein. This has seen an increase in its consumption and demand.
As a career aquaculture practitioner I find this niche good to elevate and maximize profits. Moreover, fish(tilapia) and it's products are mainly found around the lake region. Therefore bringing the product and services closer to customers in the City set-up is not just good for business but also providing an alternative to the clients on the type of meals available. Hence they'd adjust to meet their preference.
The product and services costs are pocket friendly, set according to the prevailing market trends with a unique touch as compared to competitors. This eventually sees a good traffic of sales and revenue collection.
The profits realized from the sale of our products are used to pay premises rent, pay staff, make sure compliance is updated and expansion of the business in terms of inventory and marketing.
I have a growing demand for fish at the outlet.
Most clients have given positive feedback and referrals which has in turn boost my daily sales.
I am therefore seeking these funds to help with increased supply of the product.
I am looking at expanding to a mini restaurant to cater for the growing demand where clients will enjoy the delicacy with their choice of accompaniment.
This is likely to increase my revenue and eventually make it easier for me to support my family through education, clothing and many other basics.
With the restaurant in place, the people around are going to benefit in enjoying the healthy delicacy as well others getting a job(s)
