My name is Vicky ochieng, I am a mother, a teacher and a farmer, I was born and raised in the rural parts of alego in kisumu county, nyanza province.
My parents were pesant farmers, they struggled alot to raise me and my siblings, a times school fees was hard to raise and we could stay out of school for a while as they struggle to raise the fee needed.
I started gaining interest for farming at a tender age just like my elder sister who is also a farmer.
When I completed my teaching college and got married I was lucky my husband had a big piece of land which he inherited from his parents so instead of sitting at home as I waited to secure a job I decided to borrow the land and started planting tomatoes and onions, with time I started keeping chicken and to date am a proud farmer a mother and a teacher.
When covid 19 hit our county most of schools were closed so as a teacher I was home full time, I had time to focus on my farm and later on secured lots of customers locally.
I work as a primary school teacher and also a farmer, my teaching career earns me a monthly salary while my farm earns me a daily income.
I spend my salary on farming and hence use my profits on home development and family upkeep.
Poultry farming mixed with crop farming earns me a decent income.
With this loan I will plant more tomatoes as the year begin, buy a water tank to help with irrigation and farm inputs, all this will help me with farming bearing in mind that January is a dry season.
Thank you.
