I am a volunteer Church minister in Kenya with GCFC ( Grace Community Fellowship Church)and a part-time bible school teacher at KMTI (www.kmti.org). I am a father of 6, Two girls who both have just started making an income one running her own Business and the other a legal office at a local company. 2 boys in High school and 2 boys in primary school. I hold a Degree in Bible and Theology. In 1997 I was going through a rough time in my life this cause me to stop teaching at the Bible school and also doing any church ministry. at this point, I trained myself in computer maintenance through some books and CDs a friend from the USA gave me. This set the path for me to start a computer repair shop that eventually became a full-fledged IT Store. However, in 2013 I found my self in bad debts because of my lack of proper planning and this cost me my business. Part of the problem was no one was willing to refinance me to start over. Since then I to date my clients bring their work to my house where I do the work at night and deliver the finished product the next day.
I currently undertake, repair and maintenance of smartphones i.e replacing broken screens, or parts or fixing software issues, I also fix and maintain laptops. and I also install CCTV . among those clients I previously had when I run an IT shop. Currently, everyone has a smartphone or even a laptop and this break daily and many can't afford new ones they prefer to repair. The challenge is financing that can allow me to reopen my business especially now having learnt from my past mistakes. I have since Joining Zidisha added the sale of refurbished ex -UK/USA Iphones. which has proved really profitable.
My profit is mainly used for the family to take care of my bills and pay school fees for my kids 2 in high school and 2 in primary school. sometimes I also buy common parts clients need.
with Covid-19 inflation has hit sky-high in Kenya it has been said the unborn child is already owing the Government about $1300. To make up our government has recently raised taxes on practically everything. After my last experience of buying and selling 2 used cars, I realized there is more demand for locally used classic cars that are in good condition and affordable. My idea is to use the money I got from my last business plus this loan to acquire another used car with less work and restore it for resale at a cost of $2200 and thereafter sell the same for $3500 -$4000.
Once the loan is received I will start marketing the car before it is done. I also still do phone repairs and computer repairs this is more weekly so am able to raise part of the loan from this too. my wife also does homemade multipurpose detergents that we sell and this gives us income too. I also make some money from part-time teaching at a bible school.
