My name is Brenda Koech, a business lady currently working and living in Kericho Town, Kenya . I am from a small family of three consisting of my mother, my older brother and myself. My family currently resides in Rongai, Nakuru.
I received my primary school education in Kericho and after successfully completing my primary education, i attended an all girls high school in Nairobi for my secondary education. I later enrolled at a local university to pursue a Business degree in Marketing.
I recently started a new business venture selling liquid detergents and disinfectants.
I usually send for raw materials from Nairobi, measure and mix them myself, package and then sell them around Kericho town.
I pack the detergents in recycled plastic containers of 500ml and 1ltr but sometimes I get orders of 5, 10 and 20ltrs which usually go to offices and institutions around Kericho town.
First of all i would like to thank the Zidisha team for granting me my first loan which was used in acquiring a shop where i could effectively stock, display and sell the items i have for sale.
As explained in my first loan application, i mainly deal with children's items such as toys, books, puzzles and play mats. I also sell second hand ladies tops and blouses.
However i have been unable to find a steady supplier for children's items and therefore decided to focus on the ladies tops and blouses for the time being as i still look for a dependable supplier.
I managed to get a shop that costs me ksh 4000 a month in rent but the shop is in such a bad state that sometimes it becomes quite hard to conduct any business. The shop is semi-permanent in nature with timber walls and iron roofing. Whenever it rains heavily, the roof leaks in some places and soaks some of the clothes i have on display. The walls also have some gaps and whenever it gets to windy, the dust from the road is blown in to the shops which makes some of the clothes dirty and unattractive.
With the loan i hope to buy iron sheets to fix the leaky roof and ply wood to cover the gaps in the wall. i also hope to buy some paint and make the shop look attractive so as to attract more customers.
