I grew up in Tigoni, on a flower farm. From a very young age, I was surrounded with lots of colour, and handwork. After school, I rushed my homework to be able to get a chance to grade the flowers, and prepare them for packing ready for export. I still remember the way we would neatly pack them in their boxes, an array of colours that were so rich, not to mention the scents. I live in Loresho. Its almost similar to Tigoni, because its located in a valley, so the weather in the evening and early morning, is cold and the crispy fresh air in the morning reminds me of home. I can't wait for the day that my business becomes a household name, that will be closely linked to the preservation of our culture. I want my business to be a top reference base when it comes to utilizing old traditions in modern design.
My business is of design handmade accessories, i.e. Necklaces, bracelets,Leather handbags and earrings. I like working with my hands for one, and most importantly I enjoy the continuous opportunity of delving into various cultures when designing a collection and knowing that people are buying more than just a piece of jewelry. My biggest challenge right now is a consistent source of good quality supplies though I have also been able to project better and boosted my profits to between 5000 Kes to 10,000 Kes in a good month. I can do something, every penny counts and it can assist in paying for a sample or very specific raw materials that will take me one step closer to the final product that I need done. I use the profits to feed my family and expand the business more.
Given the loan,I am going to purchase some leather material to finish a line of bags. The leather costs 100-200 KES per square foot, and the loan amount can afford me approximately 30-40 sqft. I will purchase this leather directly from the factory and not the re-sellers since they hike up their prices by more than 50%.
The impact of this loan will be important and a huge milestone, since my leather goods are known of by an intimate circle but I will be able to now show people my skills and generate more income.
