I was born and grew up in Siaya County where i was able to attain both my primary and secondary school education. In 2007 i went to the capital city(Nairobi-Kenya) for college studies. Being that i came from poor family, i was forced to rethink of other sources of finance to facilitate my basic needs. I searched for part time employment but in vain. Its at this moment that i decided to engage in an income generating activity. Because of inadequacy of funds, my studies came to a halt. This is when i decided to venture in beauty industry which progressed well until the post election violence which resulted to my business being burnt down. I thereafter decided to go back home(Siaya) where i have started up beauty shop again(Kinyozi&Salon) . Currently I'm a single mother of two and entirely depends on my business as a source of income. Above all im a born again child of God who fully believes in Him and serves in our church(Living faith International a.k.a Winners Chapel-Siaya Kenya)
Initially i had a beauty shop where i sold beauty products to college students. However because of the fist loan i received from Zidisha, i've seen my business grow hence have ventured into a retail shop. In the 3years time, i see my retail shop to a wholesale. So currently, i ran two shop within the same location.
In my shopi sell household items such as sugar, cooking oil, flour, airtime, seats for hire e.t.c. The goods i sell are of demand since they are used in day to day's basis. I chose on this business mainly because of the demand for the commodities around this place yet people walk a far distance to find a shop. The population here is also high being that there are two colleges, a hospital and residential houses being constructed around.
Typically, my costs are kshs.25,000(rent 15,000, electricity 5000, security 3000 miscellaneous 2000)per month and my revenue is at kshs.approximately 50,000/=. I use my profits to pay my house rent, clothing, food, school fees for my two children, and my brother who is in high school, electricity bills, water bills, expansion of the business, and support my mother who is widowed and also at times to take my children out for their picnics.
I intend to buy a refrigerator worth 500 dollars. This means therefore that iwill some money to the loan i will receive. The fridge will help me preserve the perishable commodities that i also sell in the shop. I will also use it to cool soft drinks for my clients. To me it will be of much help as I've been loosing customers who wants cold drinks that currently i don't have. Secondly ,I've not been able to sell commodities that require cooling hence with this it will be of much help. I will also save my customers who not need tow walk long distances to get the services they require.
I expect to increase my profits because currently i do not give these services to my clients who have shown thier demand for the same.
