I am Jennifer Mukanga, born in and raised up in Busia County in the western part of Kenya. I am the first born in our family of five. I was schooled at Busian Girls Secondary and Primary, and I later joined Nakuru Teachers College and I graduated as a teacher and also I took short course in hair dressing and beauty. After my college graduation, I didn’t get a job, so I decided to open a salon, which I operating as I am looking for a teaching job.
I run a salon at Shabab Estate in Nakuru County, but I live at Kenlands, just opposite the former Denis Club off Yimbo Road at Crescent Road, Block 26, just at the corner on Red Gate.
I am married and blessed with 2 children, a boy and a girl. My girl is also pursuing teaching as a profession. My business helps me to gather more funds and support my 2 children, who are both in college.
I am a hairdresser. Sometimes I teach at Nakuru Deliverance off Kariba Primary School. Regardless of competition, I have managed to keep my customers, and also many are coming due to the good work my salon offers. The people I have employed also have shown good behavior to my clients, which has made sure that, even if when I am not there, they all are served well and with respect.
My business costs are:
I pay rent $40 per month for business premises, $210 I pay 2 workers per month and $180 is the business running cost. My profit ranges from $130 to $220 a month, depending on what my clients want. With the profit I get I support my family, that is, children's fees as well paying our house rent and supporting my parents, since they are of old age now.
Services
My services average $ 11, with a range of $3 for a hair trim to $17.00 for the complete beauty package (hair, facial, manicure and pedicure). These processes are lower than my competitors'.
Thank you lenders for this wonderful opportunity and Zidisha at large, I am so much humbled and grateful. My loan that I am requesting will go to the purchase of dryer in my salon. I have been missing about 7 clients daily due to lack of a hair dryer. Every client I charge $1.50, of which by the end of the month I can be in a position of making about $40 on dryer only. This is a big boost in my business. I hope I will be granted this loan: upon being given the loan, I can make an increase of 2% profit in my business. Thanks for now, I hope I will be granted.
