My names are Carolyne Lusinde Muhumbwa. I am a mother of one son who is 10 years old and I live in the area of Kawangware in Nairobi where I work as a Bus conductor for the K.B.S company.
I am working as a bus service woman, and I do the work of collecting fare or transport fee from commuters. I am employed by the K. B. S (Kenya Bus Service) company. I wish to train as a driver and take up the role of a driver because the job is better paying than my current job. I get paid on a daily basis, at a rate of about $15 per day and i pay my health insurance and pension scheme from my dues at the end of the month. I also have an ambition of setting up a small business to supplement my income because I am often free on days that I am not on duty. I plan to start and grow a small clothing retail business in which I will be buying and selling second-hand shoes and women's handbags.
I am a bus conductor seeking to expand a second line of income so that i can work on it as a part time venture because I am off duty for about two weeks in a month. I plan to expand on the sales of ladies and children shoes as well as women handbags. I have already started out using my little savings from work and I plan to increase my stock by getting more funding that will enable me to get more items for my inventory. I currently hawk (door-to-door sales) and sometimes make open market displays on market days. Whenever possible I also go with a few of the items to my workplace and church meetings where I have been able to make a few sales. I would like to seek more funding to get more inventory, and if my sales increase as anticipated I plan to seek more funding and open a permanent sales spot where I can have someone assist me in the business.
