I am Charles Ouma, born and brought up in Eldama Ravine town for a family of eight. I am the first born in our family. I went to school but only reached standard six and dropped due to lack of school fees. I had lost one of my parents and life was very difficult for us. I had to find a way of getting money to feed my younger brothers and sister. Later on i got married. I now have 3 children and my wife does not have a job. I always have to struggle a lot to make ends meet.
I started farming kales and spinach for sale and also domestic use on our one acre piece of land so that my family can have food on the table. I admire in future to have stress free life; where i can afford food and education for may children.
My hobbies are dancing, reading the bible, making new friends and traveling
I do kale and spinach farming from our farm and sell them to my customers at Juakali market. I decided to venture into this business because spinach and kales are always on high demand all seasons. My biggest challenge is how to sustain my customers during dry season. It requires a lot of energy and time to go to the river to fetch water for irrigating the crops. I wish to see myself owning a green house to produce vegetables throughout the year.
I normally make an average income of $100 to $150 per month.
To buy one irrigation pump for my garden at a cost of $100. This will increase my vegetable production and will help to produce vegetable even during dry seasons hence increasing my income. The income will enable me support my family, take children to school and buy food for them. This will help me reduce the stress of school fees for my children. Thank you Zidisha fraternity for this chance
