About Me

I am the first born in a family of six children. Being a girl and having 2 younger brothers after me, I used to do a lot of house chores to help my mother. I schooled up to class eight where I could not continue because already my younger brothers had caught up with me. Instead, I was taken to a local polytechnic to study sewing. Before I could graduate, I got pregnant and got married. I was in the marriage for a few years, but I left because it was abusive. I was employed as a house girl by which I worked for many years. One day, one of my younger brothers called me and told me that he wanted me to stop working as a maid. He gave me KES 1500 to start selling secondhand clothes. I started hawking them in the streets and my business grew very well in a few months.
I have 1 child, a girl. She also has a son. My daughter is working with an IT firm but I want my grandson to be a businessman when he grows up. I love spending time with him during my free time.

My Business

I started my business by selling ladies secondhand clothes and mostly inner clothes. I did that from the streets until I was able to rent a room. When I moved from the streets, I stopped doing the secondhand inner clothes and started doing new ones for both men and women. These clothes are always in demand, especially with ladies. Ladies are always buying clothes and that's why I have a larger stock of ladies clothes than men's.
My stock cost is average and the profits are good. The only issue is when sometimes it takes long to clear some stock and it becomes like a dead stock. I used to pay school fees for my daughter and her son, but since she started working, I use the profits in growing my business, and paying my rent both for home and the business premises. I am also saving to buy some piece of land for myself.

Loan Proposal

I want to buy more stock of clothes in order to stock a new shop that I have opened. This is going to cost me approximately USD 52.00. This is to satisfy my increasing number of customers. I expect this to increase my profits by almost 10% per month. My life will improve significantly from this growth.

Only made one loan payment. No explanation for delinquency ever posted. Maybe has severe financial problems but she owes it to lenders to inform them of her situation.

Mariam paid off her loan perfectly. I would gladly lend to her again and encourage others to do the same.
