My name is Marieme Diagne. I was born on May 26, 1981 in Dakar. I am married and have three sons. I live at my own home with my family. I went to school until the end of high school but didn’t take the bac (qualifying exams to move on to higher education). After, I had professional training – two years of English and six months of computer classes and received a certificate in this subject.
I am a businesswoman and a seamstress. I sew with my tailors and I also travel to Mauritania to buy merchandise to sell here in Senegal. I send boubous (traditional Senegalese men’s robes) to New York in the United States to my sister-in-law to sell them to Americans. I would very much like to visit the United States, but I have not obtained a visa, I’ve tried two times but it’s too difficult. I am a member of a women's credit association made up of my friends and neighbors. Every month, each member contributes 15,000 CFA (about $30). Our group is currently made up of twenty people. The group issues loans of 300,000CFA to each member in turn. I’ve received 200,000 CFA (about $400) two times which I’ve already paid back.
I will grow my business activities. Because I currently lack the inventory to satisfy all of my clients, I will buy more fabric and decorative accessories. Since we are in the summer season, I would like to sell perfumes and bath gels as well as cosmetic products.
