My name is John Martin Oloo Omolo, I am 35 years old I have worked as an Accountant for nine years now and I also have a passion for farming. For the last four years I have been practicing modern farming where I have been growing high value crops in our are, like tomatoes, onions, water melons and capsicum. For the four years I have been farming I had ups and downs due to the challenge of water source for my garden, during the rainy seasons I have been able to break even in terms of input and output and other times I got surpluses, but when the rainy season is over I have limited source of water which is inadequate to sustain my farming project. I need $ 1,000.00 so that I can buy a solar water pumping, install a rain harvesting dam and a 5,000 liter tank.
I need $ 1,000.00 I will use it for the following
1. Install a rain harvesting dam i.e by using dam liners, that cost $ 291.26
2. 5,000 liter tank for water storage and irrigation through drip pipes, this will cost $ 291.26.
This will ensure that my farm project runs effectively and get good yields. I currently have a solar water pump that will aid me in doing irrigation
I need $ 1,395.34 to ensure the project works well for a start. In future I would like to acquire my own land as I like farming and employ jobless people to work on the farm and improve the food production in the area as it is scarce in the dry spell, and very expensive if available.
A case of tomatoes goes for $ 40.69, a sack of groundnuts goes for $ 139.53, and onions go for $ 23.25 and 1kg melon goes for $ 1.74.
1. The tomatoes farm preparations and requirements cost $ 232.55 and the out put will fetch $ 2,325.58
2. Onions preparations will cost $ 116.27 and the harvest will fetch $ 1,744.18
3. Groundnuts will cost $ 93.03 and the harvest will fetch $ 930.23
4. The melons will cost $ 58.13 and the harvest will fetch $ 1,395.34
To prepare one and a half acre of land I would spend $ 23.25 on seeds, $ 55.23 to plough, $ 46.50 to weed, $ 58.13 for manure, $ 116.27 for labour, pies for irrigation $ 232.55, $ 465.11 for water tank reserve, with all this in place I will be able to produce affordable farm produce and create work in our village
