I was born and raised in Lantey George, Labadi. I have three brothers. My father is a Pastor. And my mother a trader formerly selling satchet water and a local dish called kenkey. I completed my Junior High School at La Enobar school. Due to financial challenges my parents were unable to send me to a Senior High School.
I decided to join the Ghana Hairdressers and Beauticians Association(GHABA) where I entered a one year training school to train as a Hairdresser and makeup stylist.
I later met my Husband with whom I have three children. Two girls and a boy.
I am a fully certified Hairdresser and Beautician. Since graduating from school. I established my own business, 'Roses Salon'. The main services I provide are hair washing, drying, hair relaxing, braiding, weave on, pedicure and nails. And selling of wigs.
Ghanaian women from all backgrounds rich or poor identify with their hair. It is cultural. People wish to prepare for parties, engagements, weddings, funerals, social events. I chose hairdressing because I had a passion to work in the beauty industry. I saw that it can be both a rewarding and profitable venture. I wanted to be my own boss, to train others and certify them. So they could establish themselves to earn a living.
washing can cost from Ghc 5($1). Braiding from Ghc 10($2) weave onGhc20($4-5)
wigs can be sold from Ghc20($4-5).
I must maintain a stock of shampoo, conditioners and hairspray etc.
Work has periods of a slow flow of customers to very busy, especially around the christmas holidays. Weekends tend to be busier than weekdays. During the week people start to come in during the evening. It is not uncommon for me to leave my shop sometimes till after 10pm or 11pm in the evening.
I can earn anything from Ghc10-70 ($2-14)or more a day. If I am catering for engagements and weddings where I am called out I can charge from Ghc150($35)depending on what the client wants.
My profits are used to pay my electricity bill at the salon. Reinvest to purchase products which are getting finished. Supporting my family at homewith food items, the childrens money for school. Things to maitain the household, mosquito spray, washing products. General house upkeep.
Hi lenders. With this loan I will use it to expand the products I use for various work i do. It can be purchasing shampoo($3), conditioner($3), hair spray($4-5). Depend on what I am getting short. Not having stock slows work. It wil lmean not turning customers away. Thank you.
