About Me

My name is Kennedy Oloo.
I grew up in Nairobi, Kibera slums. I am a teacher by profession.
I'm a cofounder of Daraja Community Organization in Ulafu Sub-location, Siaya County, Kenya.
I like getting involved in community projects e.g Youth Empowerment programs, environmental activities.

My Business

The project deals with selling farm produce , mostly cereals and vegetables to local community and institutions. Cereals and vegetables form basic food requirement within the community and are highly in demand.
I chose this project because of the availability of land which can be used for the farming project and also ready market for farm produce.
The costs involved purchase of certified seeds, farm yard manure from neighboring community, farm implements and labour costs. Revenue comes from sales of farm produce.
The main aim of this project is to be an income generating activity to support the Daraja CBO which supports Orphans and Vulnerable Children, and promote Youth and Women Empowerment programs in Siaya County, Kenya.

Project Proposal

We are seeking additional funding to launch a new income-generating project to supplement our existing farming activities. With these funds, we plan to open a small retail shop, where we’ll sell staple goods such as maize flour, soap, milk, cooking oil, and sugar. This shop will not only provide essential items for the community but will also generate steady income to support and expand our project’s goals. By diversifying our income streams, we aim to create a more sustainable financial base that will enable us to continue funding our programs and further our impact in the community. Your support in this expansion would be invaluable, helping us take a major step toward long-term sustainability.

Hello, everyone! I’m excited to share the progress on our recent farming project, made possible thanks to your support. With the funds, we purchased seeds, engaged casual laborers to help prepare the land, and acquired essential tools and manure to boost our crops. We are currently focused on routine care practices as the crops grow. Since farming is a seasonal endeavor, we can’t talk about profits just yet, as harvest will come later, but every step has brought us closer to a successful yield. Thank you for your generosity and for helping us reach this point. I look forward to updating you on the harvest and the project’s final impact. Your support means so much!

I have received funds for our third project. The funds will help in the kales project where we are going to purchase seeds and put up a nursery. We will purchase a knap sack sprayer and also use the funds to take care of some overhead costs. I'm so grateful to our funder and still looking forward for more support as we advance our projects. Currently the ongoing beans project is doing well and we are hopeful for good harvest.

Our farming project is going on well. The funds received earlier made it possible to pay the casual laborers. A knap sack sprayer was also purchased. The knapsack sprayer will help in other project areas as we intend to introduce other varieties of crops. Through support from our backers, we intend to expand in order to address nutrition and employment challenges in the community.

The funds received for the project were utilized in purchasing beans for planting. Germination has already taken place. We look forward to diversifying through introduction of other food crops which have ready market within the community. Hopefully, we will achieve this through the support of our backers. We are so grateful for the funds received for the first project.

I take this opportunity to thank Zidisha for providing the funds for my first project. I will use the funds provided to purchase the certified beans seeds for planting in this season. This is just a starting point and will spur growth in the farming project with time. After harvest, part of it will be donated to Daraja Community Organization for feeding program, and the remaining will be sold to plough back and also support the CBO programs.
I want to thank the members who have funded this project. Your contribution to this project will go a long way in positively impacting the members of community who the organization's main focus.
