About Me

My name is Salome Ondego. I come from Usire Village, Bondo Sub-County ,Siaya County in Kenya. I am married with six children.
I am a teacher by profession and is self employed. I am involved in education of children and community development projects in the rural village to improve livelihoods and poverty alleviation.
I am also a farmer. I plant crops like maize, beans , vegetables fruits and sugarcane. I keep livestock too. I love planting trees as a way of conserving the environment.

My Business

I am the Director of Ebenezer Usire Academy, a low cost private primary school established in the rural village to provide quality education to vulnerable children, especially the girl child.
The school was started in 2014 and has a population of 258 pupils from ECDE to Grade 8.
The funds generated from fees payments is used to pay staff salaries and for lunch preparation. The school makes a profit of roughly 25,000 kes. The school bakery project has increased our profits. Thanks to the Zidisha Family. Some of this money usually is used for maintenance of the school buildings, and sponsoring some of the children who have difficulty in paying their school fees.
In order to increase our income, the school is planning to establish a dairy farming project. Our target is to purchase three female grade cows for milk production. This will be accomplished in 3 phases. Through Zidisha family, we have purchased the 1st cow and we are in the process of buying the second cow. The first cow will give birth around December 2024.
The milk produced will be used for breakfast and the rest sold out to the community. At the moment we purchase milk to add to the porridge prepared for the pupils.
We expect the milk production to be 12 litres daily. One litre is sold at kes 100. So in a month we expect an income of kes 36,000.

Project Proposal

The school intends to purchase the second female cow at an estimated cost of kes 70,000. We plan to have three female cows for milk production. The demand for milk from the community is high.
The loan will be repaid with money from our school bakery and maize farming projects since the milk production will not be immediate.

Greetings to our funders. Thank you very much for the support that has helped our school start a dairy farming project through the purchase of one female cow in our last project. We plan to have at least three female cows.
We now want to purchase the second female cow at an estimated cost of kes 70,000.
The loan will be repaid with money from our school bakery and maize farming projects since the milk production will not be immediate.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all the members who have funded the dairy farming school project. You have made our dream come true. I will buy one incalf cow to provide for milk for the pupils. The milk will also be sold to the community and the money we get will be used to subsidise school fees for the vulnerable children and school development. May God bless you all abundantly.

Hello to my Backers. I thank all for your support to help the school purchase a water storage tank. The tank is already installed and we managed to harvest water. When the school opens in January, there will be plenty of water for cooking, drinking and cleaning. May you all be blessed abundantly.

Hello my supporters. I am very grateful to you all for the support you gave for my last project. The project was planting maize for the school lunch program. The maize farm is doing very well and with your support we expect a bumper harvest. This is going to make a big difference to the well being of these children and the surplus of maize will be sold for the development of the school. Infact since I joined the Zidisha family I have seen a big change in the school in terms of development. I am very grateful to the Zidisha Team who came up with the idea of global fundraising. The picture is the maize farm at present. The harvest will be late July or early August.
