My names are veronica wambui born in 1979, i live in kinangop where I grow a variety of crops. I mostly deal with the French peas which does very well in this area. I also keep livestock including one grade cow, 5sheep and chicken. Mostly I grow maize to subsistence use and it does very well in this area. I still operate as a middleman as I buy farm produce from farms in Kinangop and concentrate in French peas and irish potatoes. These are required in plenty at the market. We hire Lorries as a group comprising of 10 middlemen and collect our goods from various points in Kinangop and take them to Nairobi (Wakulima market). We pay the lorry for transport.
BUSINESS
Am a middleman bringing the farm produce to the market. I have done this business for the last 3 years and is a good business. The prices for the French peas range from USD 3 to USD 10 depending on the supply from the farms. When the supply is more in the farm or plenty, I usually buy 20 bags to the market fetching an average of USD 20 per supply. For Irish potatoes the average price per bag when planet are USD 10 to USD 30 when scarce I usually buy 10 bag making an average of 20USD per supply with a zidisha loan. I will be able to buy more of these bags to the market thus making more profit. The roads networks here have improved greatly since the introduction of county government. Through the devolved government roads are well maintained with murram hence am able to access interior goods which prices are bit lower.
Lenders, am intending to use this loan to buy 20 more bag of french peas per week@ usd 10 per bag i will supply them to wakulima market. am expecting a profit of usd 4 per bag.this will help me boost my income.
