I'm fifth born in a family of eight
Parents were farmers and educated me to high school
I always wanted to be self employed so after being employed for five years started the business of transport.
I operate in an area where there is great demand for commuter vehicles and business is keeping me going.
I have two boys who I have made sure they go to a good school and one wants to an Engineer while the other wants to be a Doctor.
I like swimming and reading.
The transport business requires a lot of time and waking very early and sleeping late is the business norm.
I transport commuters from Githurai to Mwihoko and on a good day I make 10 trips and each gives me a net of Kes200.
I wanted independence and this business satisfied that.
I use the income to pay school fees and meet other domestic needs like clothing, house rent , food and anything else that needs my attention.
The road where i operate my matatu business was recently tarmacked and this has given the new competition from other vehicle which are newer and cleaner than the ones which were prying the route before the tarmac, this demands that we redo the old vehicles to remain in business.
I intend to use about US$ 400 to give my vehicle a new face by working on the bodywork and a new coat of paint so that commuters can appreciate using my service. This will give me a grip on the business and keep me afloat in the new competition. I am not expecting increase in the income but I am sure that this will make me relevant in the business.
