I was raised in the rural areas of Kisumu county in Kenya. I lived with my parents who were both local primary school teachers. I attended a village primary school called Ochok Kadongo. Though life was hard i did well in the final national exams and was thereafter called to a national high school, Maseno School which was a great achievement for me. I then passed and studied Mechanical Engineering in Kenyatta University under government sponsorship. I finished my studies in 2012. My father passed on in 2012 just before I completed the final semester. I tried looking for a job to fend for my other siblings since I was the first born in a family of five. The jobs were not forth coming so a friend introduced me to freelance academic writing that i nowadays do. One of my hobbies is talking to high school students to encourage and motivate the weak ones.
I do freelance academic writing. It is a very reliable job because you earn as much as you work. It is like self-employment hence you can set your own targets. I usually make around Ksh. 4,500 in a week. That typically translates to Ksh.18,000 which is a good amount to earn. One of the major costs i incur is the internet which can cost about Ksh.1500 in a month. I pay electricity bills of about Ksh.600 monthly.Another impediment is related to frequent power blackouts that interrupt my speed to meet my targets. I chose this business because it is easier to do and while am online, i also get an opportunity to apply for jobs. The money I get caters for my upkeep as it pays my bills. I send some money monthly home to my mother to help raise my other siblings and add to their school fees. The other thing is that i use it to do short professional courses that can improve my chances of being employed. Even if i get a job, i will not quit freelance writing because it will be my side hustle.
This fund will assist me in paying the tuition fee for my diploma course in Project Management which am due to start on 16th April, 2015. The course will be done at Kenya Institute of Management, KIM. The first part of the course takes six months. The total fee is $280. The fee is spread for the six months. However, in order to be registered and begin the course, a mandatory fee of $100 must be payed on the day of admission. This is the amount i hope this loan will cover for me so that i start in time as i arrange on the payment of the rest. The loan will benefit me immensely because if i can do this diploma in Project Management, I stand higher chances of getting considered for employment. The course is so important to me as it will improve my skills to also manage any future businesses of my own.
