I was born in a rural town in Kenya called Machakos. I spent most of my early childhood observing my grandparents as they did farming, though at that time most it was mostly subsistence farming. It's from this that I grew to love farming. Even after moving to the city, I still had that passion. That is why I took on farming as a hobby and eventually I have turned it into a money making venture.
I'm an information system administrator in the hospitality industry. In this role,
I'm tasked with assisting the IT manager in the provision of IT services for the hotel and the deployment of IT department requirements. I'm a qualified Computer technician and hold a diploma in computing from NCC education level 4 (QCF).
At the moment, I'm doing horticulture farming i.e., tomatoes and corianders as well as maize farming. Basically, I farm anything which is in the season and which has the prospect of giving me a good return. Initially, I was doing this as a hobby but after seeing that it gives good returns, I turned it into a business. Currently, I have employed several people who are managing my rented farms as I don't do it full time.
Most of the profits I get from the business I have invested back into it by expanding the size of the farm I rent and buying machinery I need. At the moment I'm saving money so that I can buy my own land.
as the money im intelligible is small i will use the money i get to buy pesticides as i will also use the amount to buy petrol for the pump to water to the farm. this will enable me to maximize the out put in the farm as will be able to kill the pests which damage a good number of the crop and also to provide water even when their is no rain.
-pestcides; $200
-Petrol:$100
i expect this to improve my profit by 10%
