Hi, I am Bartega Bandi, 26 years old. I was born and raised in Vihiga County, which is found in the western part of Kenya. I have a diploma in Information and Communication Technology. When I was in my final year in college, my father, who was the sole provider in our family, lost his job during a down-sizing in the company where he used to work. I was already saving some money, which I earned by providing computer software installation and maintenance services to other students.
To increase my income, I bought a deskjet printer and started printing assignments for students. I learned Photoshop through tutorials and started editing and printing photos. That enabled me to pay my final year fees and still support my family. After college, I rented a space to continue with my business.
I run a small printing business. I design and print brochures, photographs, newsletters, etc. This service is in demand since schools in general are increasing the number of students they intake every year. In Kenya, college assignments are required to be printed on hard copy before students submit them to lecturers. Some primary and kindergarten schools usually outsource exam printing jobs.
I am also involved in computer repair and maintenance, to help non-technical people who have no idea on how to solve various computer problems. I make an average of Kshs. 2,000 (20 dollars) a day. On some days I make up to Kshs. 4,000 (40 dollars). I save an eighth (1/8) of the profit the business makes, a quarter for reinvestment, and the remaining to support my younger brother, who is in high school.
Hi, I want to use this loan to buy photo papers of different sizes and weight for my printing business i.e A3, A4 and 4R size. Light Glossy A3 ream costs kshs. 600 ($5.84), A4 costs kshs. 500 ($ 4.87) and 4R kshs.150 ($ 1.46 ) using current conversion rate. A ream has 100 leafs. I want to buy two reams of the three sizes and expect to make 150% profit on each ream.
