About Me

I am a mother of five children. I did not get higher education, although I would love to see my children and grandchildren study to the university. My husband passed on two years ago after a fight with cancer and his departure left my family in a bad financial situation because he was the breadwinner. Also, a lot of money was spent in hospital. Earlier, I also lost my eldest son who had studied at the university. I was therefore left to look after his children, who are my grandchildren. I earn my living through farming, which is the main source of income in my area (which is a rural area).

My Business

Tea farming is my main business or source of income. The success of tea farming as a business depends so much on managing workers and the tea stems. Other than labour and fertilizers, there are no major costs for this activity. I get a net annual income of about 250,000 KES (approx. US$2,700). KTDA offers us some bags of fertilizers, but they are not adequate to support my entire tea plantation.

Loan Proposal

I will use the loan to purchase 10 baskets that are normally used to put tea when one is plucking tea. These will cost KES 3000 (US$34). I will use KES 4000 (US$44) to pay workers so that I am able to pay them immediately after they pluck tea. Asking them to wait till money is released by our market has proven to be costly because the workers often refuse to pluck until they are paid. I will use the remaining KES 2000 (US$22) to buy food in bulk for the workers.

I have been experiencing financial constraints because I have been paying fees for my granddaughter that passed her exams and joined University. That is after I lost my husband who was the main provider for my home. I will make sure I repay the loan within the next five months.

I experienced some financial difficulties because my means of livelihood, tea farming is not giving good returns. my tea plants were pruned and it takes about four months before the plants regenerate and tea-picking resumes. The loan has been helpful and I really thank you for the assistance when I needed it. I was able to purchase Items that are needed in the farm and pay for labour. I was also able to pay some college fees arrears for my grand daughter. I am in a better position and I promise to repay the loan.

Dear Lenders, I apologize for not making the repayments on time. I depend on tea farming, which pays semi-annually and only a small amount is paid monthly. I was also not financially proper due to the pressure to pay school fees to my granddaughter. I will make an effort to repay the loan in the coming month.
