I was born in a family of four, 1 sister and 3 brothers. I am the second last born.My parents were farmers who loved education and invested in our education greatly. They sacrificed each and every luxury to educate me and my siblings. Although the journey was tough I learned to engage in business at an early age even paying some of my own primary school fees. I managed to pass my primary school exams and also attained secondary school education by hawking eggs on the streets. I also managed to join a college and did my diploma in General Agriculture and ended up investing in farming and also taking advantage of the student population business opportunities by selling foodstuff from hostel to hostel until I opened up a shop at the college gate, an idea which has sustained me well.
My shop is a retail shop selling various items demanded by students such as stationery, foodstuff, refreshments and household goods. I buy stock in the local Bungoma town and ferry them every three days to the college area. I mostly engage in the purchase of eggs and buns. I buy a crate of eggs at $4 and resell it at $5.50. In three days I make sales of 4 crates and this sustains the rest of the stock very well. I also sell other foodstuff like cooking oil, sugar, salt, bread and buns.
I would like to buy five crates of eggs at about ksh 400 and will resell these to make ksh 150 per crate as profit.
