I am Johne Barasa,I am an upcoming commercial farmer. I went to Lurambi primary school where I sat for my KCPE and passed well to join Musingu School where I did my KCSE. Upon completing secondary education I joined Kenyatta university for a degree in general agriculture. I am the second born in a family of three children.I am married with 2 children namely Antony and Isabela.
After completing my degree ,I looked for white collar job for two years. within these tarmacking period I could barely afford to foot my bills.my struggling parents considered me a big boy and expected me to help them. I decided to leave the city and go back home.I did not have capital to start business yet I really wanted to fend for my self. I joined Umoja youth group and applied for a loan from a commercial bank to start off. I prepared the farm myself with the help of my siblings ,I no longer cared about the degree I had ,but putting food on the table. I used the bank loan to buy seeds and manure for organic farming. I am now a proud on of 1 acre farm under high value horticultural crops,it gives me a descent living and i want to expand it into a bigger thing.
Kakamega county is blessed in terms of natural resources.it has kakamega forests and the great crying stone. our isukha community has bull fighting culture.
My children are still young .I am working hard to give them the best education. I love watching football during my free time.
My farm is situted in densely populated kakamega county ,just a few kilometers from town.I grow assorted high value horticultural crops in farm.they include kale's,traditional leafy African vegetables ,tomatoes ,cabbages and capsicum.
My main clients are students from a nearby university ,i sell 90% of my crops to them. I choose to do farming because these is the only business that I had ability to manage well given that i studied agriculture at the university.
i use proceeds to pay fees, train workers ,help my parents and reinvest in my business through equipment purchase and expansion.
dear lenders,I have always watched my vegetables go into waste during market glut and suffered losses ,i wish you grand me a loan to buy a solar drier which will help me preserve the vegetables for lean times. the solar drier will cost me $210 and will help me preserve vegetables naturally with no chemicals.my income will improve since i will still get premium prices for the vegetables. i wish to thank you in advance.
