About Me

I grew up in Manyatta slums of Kisumu town. I went to Migosi primary school, Lions high school then to Nairobi aviation college. I got an internship with a government institution befpre joining college. I was only paid ksh. 7500, but due to the poverty in my family and the burden of school fees my parents had, I had to pay my own college fee which costs 4000/- monthly.
My transport and lunch would cost 100/- daily.
Since my stipend wasn't enough, I resorted to finding a side hustle which could help me support myself.
I remembered my past. I rembered mothers struggle. I remembered how she started a business with ksh. 20 but it later grew to educate and feed us ( me and my four siblings)
Believing that all a business needs is an idea, I started making ready made free dresses for sale using my mums sewing machine. My business failed due to lack of enough capital and rising cost of living. My hobby is mentoring fellow youths.

My Business

I started frying and selling buns (mandazis) in the estate where I stay.
I had been thinking of what to do to supplement my income and be able to provide for my family. Im actually the soul breadwinner as my husband do not have a job.
I could not afford to buy my baby the basic needs at birth e.g clothing. I could not afford to buy myself and my family food. The little income I earned from my formal job wasn't enough at all.
Having no capital, I couldnt think of any big ideas, so the idea of vending buns was born. I love cooking, so i thought its a good idea which would need less capital.
My starting capital was KES 400 and I made a profit of 200/-.
I recently lost my job and opteds to start a boutique with my savings from the business.
My new business is doing well except that I lack enough capital to bring in variety of clothing.

Loan Proposal

As at now my business is expanding and I need to work in a more descent environment with proper equipment.
I need to urgently construct a small kiosk at a cost of $ 100 , purchase a proper working table @ $35, and purchase a charcoal stove @ $10.
However, when I get my first loan, ill purchase the table and stove first.
Purchasing this items will increase my production ability and this will inturn increase my profits by atleast 50% as the demand is currently very high.

Why is Zidisha so frustrating to starters? I have been asked to pay and I paid membership fees of KES 1000 three times, totalling to KES3000, yet I still can't get a loan? Why does one have to pay membership fee more than once? I'm just a starter who needs a loan to help me grow and not to be drained of the little I have. Please help me. This is so frustrating.

      Please be aware:
Lenders cannot assist with anything administrative. Like borrowers, we merely create an account on the platform (in our case, to upload funds to help borrowers, which the Zidisha Team Staff then manages).

Currently the Zidisha Team Staff consists of just two (2) people: www.zidisha.org/team. They are the intermediary between the borrowers and the lenders, and only they can help you with anything administrative.

To contact them privately, send a message through the HELP link in your account.

Thanks for my first loan of KES 5105.
My previous intention was to purchase proper equipments for my business. This however did not materialise since after deduction of my membership contribution I received KES 100 which I used to purchase a covering paper for my working table to look a bit descent.
I must confess that this did not affect my business positively since I had to pay the loan through cash from my business yet I never invested the money fully in it. This highly affected my ability to make the neccessary timely payments.
I however had to do with it with the hope of later being able access credit that id inturn reinvest in my business.
    Thanks zidisha community.
