My name is Erick, borne in Nakuru County, Kaptembwa location, but grew or brought up in Nairobi County, Umoja estate. I went up to high school and later joined college in the area of computer data base development. I nowadays live in Nakuru, kaptembwa estate running computer business. I am single but lives with my sister who is doing her fourth year in Nairobi University and my brother who is pursuing his business studies. I also take care of our youngest child who is in primary school.
My dreams are to set up computer businesses within estates so that i may be able to train young people who are unable to pursue their higher education due to lack of school fees.
An example that motivated my entrepreneurial spirit to become computer literate is my elder brother who engaged me to join technical school.
My business is located in Nakuru county, Kaptembwa estate, soko mjinga centre.
I provide computer services, e.g. printing, photocopying, internet connection for the community to access services at their doorpost. I have one lady helping in the business.
I decided to start my business in 2013
I wanted to bring services at the grass root level. People used to access computer services from the city center which at some point was very costly in terms of transportation. I wanted also to be self employed.
My biggest challenge is capital input to be able to add more computers. I am passionately pursuing for a computer training school and when i heard about Zidisha loan program, i became very interested to be part of the beneficiaries in order to realize my dreams. My biggest goal is to open computer training and expand M-PESA services as well. I am very much proud of my business because it has earned me respect and dignity.
In a good month i make profits of upto $180 which i use to re-invest and expand the business while the rest i use to cater for my family needs.
Being my second loan I will spend it on establishing my computer shop. Purchase photocopy and printing materials. order more A4, A5, envelopes and rims of fulls cups that i will be able to sell to my customers.
This purchase will drive increase my revenue and profits that will help me pay back my loan as i look forward for a bigger loan to increase my inventory; e.g. starting M-PESA services that will lead to computer training school.
My business will be impacted very much because what could be missing in the shop will now be available at customer's need. It is embarrassing when customers are not being served at their immediate need.
My personal life will be impacted and transformed. I will be able to educate my younger siblings
