About Me

My names are Naomi Jesang Ngetich. I live in Kericho county at a village called Kamolok . I come from a family of six children. I am the third born in our family. I am a Christian with AIC church . I went to kipsigis girls high school and finished in the year 2008. I am now married with one child. My husband is a teacher at Kericho academy primary school. I have been a house wife for the last 2 years but in the year 2012, I decided to practice farming. I decided to do dairy farming and purchased one dairy Friesian-Ayrshire cow from a breeding farm in Central Kenya: The management system I am using is called zero-grazing (also known as cut-and-carry). In this system, the cow is fed mainly Napier grass which I produce myself, supplemented by daily meals and mineral concentrates. I also graze the cow each day on our land, mainly to provide it with some exercise. The reason I decided to have a dairy business is that there is high demand for milk in our area. Due to low local production levels (mainly because the local breeds do not produce much milk), much of the fresh milk is gotten from the neighbouring towns. This milk is often watered down. Despite this, the milk available for purchase each day often runs out by mid-morning. Packaged milk or powdered milk are an option, but they are much more expensive and hence out of reach for most families. This has created a huge business opportunity for me, since I can supply fresh milk that is not watered down. I love my Dairy farming because it has provided money for my family. I am able to support my family from the profit I get from selling milk.

My Business

My business is dairy farming. There is high demand in terms of milk in my community. This is because Milk is the staple food in my community, Many people in my village also rely on the milk that I produce because most farmers in my village have not yet crossbred their cows, thus making me being the most of the few ones who produce much milk in large quantity due to the cross breeding of my cow. The risk I was facing in my business was luck of transport for my milk due to poor road but thanks to Zidisha, I bought a donkey to help me transport the milk to my customers. The donkey is also helping transport water from the river to my homestead. My dream now is to buy one extra dairy cow. With one extra dairy cow, I will have more milk to sell beyond my village. This will help me to get more profit that will improve the status of my family.

Loan Proposal

My business is dairy farming. At the moment I am facing transportation problem due to poor road- during the rainy seasons. To solve this problem, I would like to buy a motorbike and hire someone to be transporting my milk with it. This is because motorbikes can move very fast in our poor roads.I would also like to buy one more extra dairy cow. This will mean more milk and in return i will make more sales and more profit.
