I go by name James Maina, a resident of Mihango in Subukia, Mihango is a small town just after Subukia and I do small scale farming. I was not privileged as other friends in the society and hence did not go to college after completing studies, mine has been working in various farming business depending on what is in the season. I deal with products like milk, farming of potatoes and most recently buying of goat which are young and selling them at a profit after some time.
I am proud of what i am today and this has been from the support I get from my parents, they taught me to be always confident i what i do. Today they are proud that despite not being able to give me the best, they tried and again I am not disappointing them. At my young age I have been able to achieve a lot and there is more to come. At the moment I will focus on my project and hopefully by next year I will join college hopefully to undertake a business course that will help equip me with relevant skills concerning business.
I have been this year buying goats from neighbors and then do resell them after the are mature. This may take five to eight months and I always sell at a higher price than that of buying. I settled on this business due to availability of land which is family owned and has not been utilized. My challenges include lack of pasture particularly this year when it was very dry and had to dispose some at a loss since thee place was very dry and I couldn't afford buying feeds. The demand for goats is always high as there has not been enough supply in the market. I choose the best breeds that can be reared and do also keep few goats that are purely for meat purposes. I am working to ensure that in few years to come I will be a major distributor in this area. I have just disposed some during this holy month and our Muslim brothers around formed part of the market. Now my focus is in the month of December when there will be increased demand during the festive season.
Thank you for my previous loan, I am now intending to purchase 6 additional goats at an average price of 40USD. This will mainly consist of young goats that I will rear for about 4 months with a view of selling them come February to April, mine is just to add some value and then sell, the type of goat that I keep mainly is for sale however i decide to keep breeds that show prospects of good returns and also those breeds that are a lot more heavier since sales are determined by its weight. I did construct an enclosure from my first loan and do feel comfortable that I will be able to focus full on this project.
