My names are Stephen Chumba from Eldoret, UasinGishu County. As young boy I grew up in the village and went to school in the same vicinity from nursery to standard seven. Live was not all that rosy.
There were difficulties but I overcame because I knew there was a future and I had to work hard. After my secondary I started my small farming and I am still doing it to-date. After the rich had harvested their farms, I could go to look for anything that
was left and would gather little from many farms sale for an income that helped me to start farming. The land and the people around me are friendly helpful in many ways.
I have five children. One wants to be a farmer, another a teacher, another a doctor, another business. All are still at school. I love reading.
.
Maize production and dairy farming is mainly my business. Maize is staple food and milk too. I chose this kind of business because it is easier and has ready market. The typical costs depends on the cost of seeds, fertilizers, farm iplements and animal feeds
during dry spells
The profits goes to improvement of the business, school fees and other family needs
that may arise from time to time.
I will purchase seven bags of dairy feeds at five dollars each. This will amount to thirty five dollars. The feeds will boost milk production effectively within a short period of time.I expect my profit to increase from the current ten dollars per day to about twenty dollars a day. This will be my source of encouragement with the help of my worthy lenders and the Zidisha organization.
