I am Mararo Daniel, a Kenyan citizen. I am 28 years old. I was born in a family of four, and I am the third born. My parents were farmers. I am married with one kid. I come from a village where people have not been civilized. People are still living in traditions.
It is through my parents that I am now who I am. They encouraged us to plant trees when we were young. From that, I was able to get capital with which I started the business.
I first thought of what I could do to help sustain myself and my family. It wasn't until a friend gave me an idea of starting a business of selling timbers that I went ahead and searched for the market. I asked my friend, who had a power saw, to help me make timber and I would pay him after selling them. When they were ready, the buyer came and collected them by himself.
With the little money he gave me, I went to Kisii town and got a small plot for two years and built a temporary store. I then went again and cut 6 trees and made timbers. I transported them to my timber yard. I now can buy trees and make timbers for myself.
My dream is one day to buy my own plot, build a big timber yard, and have my own pickup.
I own a small timber yard. I buy trees from farmers and hire someone with a power saw to make me timbers. I can sometimes buy ready timbers and transport them to my timber yard.
It is through a friend that I decided to start that kind of business. It wasn't until I started that I realized that timbers have high demand. Timbers have many uses. One, they can make furniture. They can also be used in building and have so many other uses.
From that small business, I can sell up to $600 in a month. From that, I make a profit of $150 a month. I use my profit to pay rent ($40). The rest I use to feed my family.
I here by again re_apply for the loan that would enable me purchase a new power saw that will cost about ksh60000. Once I receive my loan, I shall top the remaining amount from my past savings.
I have decided to add a power saw as I have found anew market where I can make timbers and their at the sight sale them to distributors. This shall make me not to depend at only those customers who come to buy from my timber yard.
Having two machines will a sure me of continuity of work as in when one has a mechanical break down the other one will be doing work. And when all are in good condition, I have aboy who assist me run the work, and this shall simplify the work and be able to asure my distributors of serving them promptly.
By starting this business business I expect huge profit as I sale at wholesale price but sale in huge quantity. Than selling one piece of timber at a high price but sale few timbers. Wish to hear from you. Thanks in advance.
