About Me

I am Ayub. I was borne in Nakuru, Kenya to a small humble family of 6 siblings. I had this very hardworking father that one day when he sadly died my mom asked us jokingly, who's gonna be as hardworking as your father. Inwardly, I deeply feel proud that I have taken after my father - I never leave until my efforts have achieved. I managed to sail through campus, undertaking Electrical and Electronics Engineering only by running errands in Nairobi town, at times during classes just to earn a living, including selling insurance policies, registering businesses and delivering post mails. I am today working for a multinational German solar power financier representing them in East Africa (see me in www.ecoligo.com). Still I am running a nut processing and packaging business both to mentor my cousin as well as help her save for her education. Mentorship is what I do best. My pastime hobby is simple: visiting places in the websites: universities, cities, cultures and watching real documentaries. It gets me inspired that one day I will tour the globe.

My Business

Apart from my employment, I run a small business that processes and packages different kind of nuts. My key product is the granola. This is a product that is added to different cuisines and is a mix of many nuts which I roast and grind and mix into a paste. I discovered that in this day and time, healthful living is a key concern for many. My target group is mainly the vegetarian. They need their bodies supplemented by nutrients they lack from animal-based foods. Nuts have most of these nutrients. The value addition for groundnuts, a special package I make, is to add pure honey, cinnamon and cayenne pepper and sell between 0.9 and 3.2 USD/packet. The unit cost of production is 0.4 - 1 USD/packet. My profits are used to grow my business as I save a portion for my cousin's higher education. I market my product through social media and personal network. My ultimate goal is for mass production to supply in supermarkets and to a larger market base. My operation expenditures are mainly electricity costs, since I run my roaster on the grid. I target that through the support of this community to soon but LPG gas roasters. I am proud of the business idea and I am happy to expand it to the many ideas in my mind.

Project Proposal

The project is intended to purchase a two-in-one heater microwave and baking oven for my food supplies business for our family's food retail business. We cook and distribute food and home-baked cakes to corporate offices through bike riders. At the moment we have to heat all orders we receive through an LPG gas cooker connected to a gas cylinder. This is slower and costlier than using a microwave. A single order takes about 10 minutes to heat up.

At present also we are using an LPG powered cooker to bake cakes for retail sale. The price of LPG for domestic use, in Kenya, has increased by more than 108% from 650 KES to current KES 1,350 or more.

An electric microwave oven will increase turn arounds by about 5 mins per order from the current 10-15 mins. This is estimated to increase efficiency of delivery as well as overall daily profits by about 600-800 KES.
