About Me

My name is Danial Sihalo,I am a headteacher at Butunyi Primary School, and a farmer.I was born in a family of 3 ,I am married with 6 kids.
I was born in humble background and grew up with lots of hardship, including lack of fees and food. After secondary school i decided to venture into business farming and specialized in pig keeping. From the sales i was able to earn living and pay for my fees at college level.
I love music and so during my free time i listen to music and sing.

Currently I am the head teacher of Buchirinya Primary School in Kakamega County. I was transferred to my current station in December 2019.
I have three children in college, three in High School, and two in Primary.
I practise horticultural farming, poultry farming and run a small grocery shop.
These projects help to supplement my income from teaching.

My Business

POULTRY PROJECT
My current business involves buying of one day old local breed chicks and selling them from the age of two weeks.
My community has a lot of cultural attachment to chicken. Chicken is the most common delicacy in many ceremonies such as weddings, funerals, dowry payment and circumcision.
Chicken rearing has therefore become a major income generating activity in my locality due to the increased demand.
Many local farmers fear handling young chicks because of high mortality rates resulting from limited knowledge on vaccination and hygiene practices.
This is an opportunity for me because I have a structure where I confine them until they are ready for market and I am also knowledgeable in vaccination of poultry.
In the current proposal I intend to purchase 350 chicks for kshs. 35,000/=.
I will use kshs. 10,000/= to purchase feeds, kshs. 2,000/= to buy a breeding roster and kshs. 3,000/= for vaccination/treatment.
I will use part of the maize I harvested from my garden to do feed formulation and save on expenses for feeds.
30 of the chicks can cater for mortality though this is still on the higher side. The remaining 320 will be sold after 4 weeks each at kshs. 250/= raising a total of kshs. 80,000/=
This will give an approximate profit of ksh. 27,000/=
I will use proceeds from this project to repay my loan and the profit will be for payment of fees balances for my children and also take life insurance cover for my aging parents.

Loan Proposal

I intend to raise 200 one day old chicks (improved local breed) and start selling from two weeks.
Those that will grow to maturity will be supplied to local hotels and markets. Projected sales are as follows:
At 2 weeks 50 chicks for $92.80
At 3 weeks 50 chicks for $139.21
At 6 weeks 50 chicken for $185.62
At 8 weeks 20 chicken for $111.37
At 12 weeks 20 chicken for $129.93
At 16 weeks 10 chicken for $92.80
I will use the proceeds to pay my loan and the remaining profit will enable me to pay school fees for my children and use part of it for my parent's medication.
