Am Samuel Ngigi. Currently living in Nairobi Am a banker by profession and and currently doing pig farming here in Kenya
I do pig farming .The business is small scale, with a current herd of 50pigs. The major challenge is feeds, which are a bit costly. Another challenge being the market price, with a kg retailing for KES 460 whereas farmers sell at Kes/280 per Kg
I will use the loan advanced to me in buying a new set of pig bread. Initially I was reading two breeds i.e landrace and Comborogh. I want to introduce Duroc breed into my farm so as cross breed the 3 for superior results. Duroc breed grows very fast hence shortening the period for rearing my pigs from 7months to even 5-6 months.
I also run a pork supply business to pork centre around Ruiru town. With the current covid situation, food industry is the only profitable business around the country and am glad am able to supply pork event at this difficult period. I sell a kg for KES 360 and hence from a single pig of 80 kg, I get at least KES 20,000.Thus I'll comfortably service the loan. From my previous history, am even able to clear the loan before due dates.
