I am a young Kenyan lady and a single mother of one child. After my primary school, I joined Our Lady of Mercy Girls High School, and due to financial constraints I had to drop out of school after one year.
Three years after dropping out of school, I conceived [a child]. At first I was worried, as I largely depended on my family for my up-keep, and as a result contemplated all manner of ways to terminate the pregnancy, but good judgement prevailed and I carried the pregnancy to full term, a decision that has brought me great joy and determination in my business to date.
After dropping out of school, I started escorting my mother to sell her wares in different towns on diverse market days, a practice that gave me experience in the world of business. A year after delivering my child, I started my own business selling new clothes, a business that I still venture in to date.
Last year, my daughter (Ciara) successfully graduated from nursery school, and she is due to join primary school this year. Therefore, when I get the loan, I intend to use it in paying for her school fee and also in purchasing her school uniform. This will cost approximately 9,500 KES ($93 USD).
