I had a very rough childhood because I didn't stay with my parents in a very tough neighborhood popularly known as Fadama in Accra. I realized the only means I could overcome hardship was through education at a very early stage. However, I was always on top of the class and finally won a government scholarship to Senior high school which was my breakthrough in life. This is because I started doing my own small business after high school which has help me complete my university education, married with two kids and bought my own private car. Finally supporting my siblings in school.
I sell used copiers and printers, toners and printer accessories and also repair and install printers and copiers.
Used Printers and copiers are in high demand in the Ghanaian economy because its very expensive for small businesses and individuals to afford new office equipment especially printers and copiers.
I chose this business because it was the only skill i had (learning to service printers) after senior high school and the only one I could afford. After senior high school I worked with an importer who sold used printers and copiers. I decided to buy one for my personal use at ¢60. After some few weeks demand for those particular printers went very high that there was a shortage. I then sold mine for ¢100 with which I bought I tabletop copier at ¢150 with the ¢50 difference subjected to deduction from my salary. I sold that machine after very careful servicing and cleaning at¢400 then bought a bigger one at ¢500, sold it at ¢1000 then on and on to date
I mostly earn not less the 20% and above from my sales
I mostly reinvent about 70% of my profit into my business then use the rest for my personal and other needs
I would use the loan to pay part of my tuition fee. This is to enable me learn how to network computers and also install printers on a network platform. The total cost of the six months programme is $550.00.
This will give me adequate knowledge on network installation. It will help my customers to be assured of a reliable network installer.
This will give my business a new source of revenue since a fee of $10-12.5 per computer is charged.
