About Me

My name is Morian Ongara Okinyi, am a widowed woman and the mother of seven children. I am the 3rd born in a family of seven children. I have 2 brothers and 4 sisters. My parents died when I was nine years old. I started schooling when I was I was 5 years of age. I loved going to school and my favorite subject was mathematics and used to outdo boys in class though girls were stereotyped as not good mathematicians. I finished my primary school but unfortunately i did not continue to High School as my parents were unable to raise money to support my education.

My parents were unable to keep me financially stable and I had to come up with an idea on how I am going to generate income. I had to approach one of my neighbours who used to sell cereals and inquire more about the business. She very understanding that she offered to sponsor me financially. She gave cereals to sell and in the evening I give her money. I started saving little money that she was giving me as commission and salary of the day. In three months time I was able to start my own and independent cereal shop where I sell cereals such as maize, sorghum, rice, beans, peas, groundnuts among other types of cereals. I buy these goods in bulk and then I break them in small quantities. Though I started with scarce cereals, but with time I managed. The business grew gradually. Now I have a cereal shop. It does not have enough stock but I hope to improve, and from your assistance I will improve tremendously. This is how I started my business and generate income for catering my needs.

My culture people are called Luo. These people love eating food known as ‘kuon’ it's cooked using grinded maize/corn into a soft flour in a boiled water. This significantly unique to my culture, people eat this food every day, both the rich and the poor. This is amazing because one cultural food put the rich and poor in the same common believe.

In my free time, I do participate in community building activities. I love making friends.

My Business

The business that I do is selling cereal. I have a small shop for selling cereals commodities. In my cereal shop, I buy cereals in bulk and sell in small quantities to consumers. I do sell maize, beans, rice, peas, and groundnuts among other types of cereals.

All these cereals are in high demand, however, maize and rice is on higher demand than others. The reason here is that middle class people use maize to get flour. While the high class people love eating rice. This makes my shop have all customers from all walks of life. My shop do not discriminate anyone and what I sell is food which nobody affords to sleep without eating. Moreover, I want to put stock on these two products so that my customers may not lack any type of foods in my shop.

In a month, I approximately make a profit of $60. First I will give priority to the weekly repayments of the loans that I will receive from you. Secondly, I will use my income to help meet my children's, education and medical and food costs. Lastly, I will use the revenues to re-invest in the business and cater for my own needs such as building my own house/home and food.

Loan Proposal

I will use the money that you will give to purchase the fast moving cereals commodities as follows: 2 bags of maize, each 90kgs, this will cost me $30 each; 2 bags of rice, each 50kgs, this will cost me $40. When I sell these commodities, I will make a profit of $50.

This will benefit me greatly because I will generate profit that will enable me to pay loans that you will give me to repay in a weekly basis, and I will be able to expand my business. For my customers, they will be benefit because I will be supplying fresh cereals to them. I also break the large quantity into smaller quantities that my customers will be able to afford.

I will use this revenue to re-invest in my business and to make sure I use it to repay the weekly repayment loans as expected from me by the Zidisha team. Also, I will use this profit to pay school fees for my 3 children in High School and cater for my needs such as food, and rent among other needs.

I expect to expand in business and gain an increase of 50% and above.
