About Me

I was born and brought up in Meru as the fourth born in a family of five children. My parents were small scale farmers and were able to see me only through primary education. Being a very determined and hardworking person, I supported my parents in farming although they were not able to see me through primary school education. when I turned 18 years, I went to seek employment in a flower farm as a casual laborer. I gathered enough savings overtime to support myself and my siblings and later on start a small business venture. I am now married and a father of one child, living in Nairobi. I currently use my bicycle to buy crates of milk at wholesale price and distribute the milk to retail shop owners. My day starts as early as 5.00 a.m. when I pick crates of milk from the milk factory and make rounds around Pangani which is near where I live. Later in the day and other manual small jobs and collect milk payments.
I now want to expand my business by buying a motorbike which will be able to carry much more capacity hence increasing my sales and also make my distribution work a lot easier.

My Business

Jitegemee is a Swahili word meaning being self sufficient. This is a business that deals with distribution of milk around Pangani area of Nairobi. I buy crates of milk at wholesale price from the Milk Factory (Kinangop Milk Factory). I then distribute the milk using my bicycle to retail Shopkeepers at Pangani area between 5.00 a.m to 7.30 a.m. Later in the day I collect my bills from each of the shop owners. I also do other manual jobs since I have spare time in the afternoon. These include buying fresh vegetables and selling them. Milk is a necessity every household in Kenya requires hence I am proud of the fact that I deliver this useful product. My biggest challenge is cycling around with my bicycle to do the deliveries hence would like to purchase a motorbike to make my distribution work a lot easier. My long term goal, say another 2 to 3 years, I would love to buy a Pick up to aid in the deliveries and distribute the milk in a wider Geographic area.

Loan Proposal

Purchase a second motorbike to use for public transport. I have learnt that their is business is need for transport services hence the second motorbike will be useful in earning income from this line. The increased income stream will boost my family life in a positive way.
