About Me

My name is Wahyu setiawan, I am an entrepreneur in the field of brick making for building materials, my business has been running 4 more years. At first I learned to make bricks from my father until I finally opened my own brick factory.
Since graduating from school I work in an automotive company as an administrative staff, but I prefer to work outdoors so I learning how to produce brick to my parents, my business initially experienced many obstacles such as failed production because of the inadequate composition of brick-making materials to the weather factor, but I have learned from those experiences and give me the spirit to try to correct the mistakes that happened and got better. Besides that I also want to earn my own income as an entrepreneur and as the head of the family should be able to meet the needs of my family because now I'm married.

My Business

My business is engaged in the production of bricks, in the area around me a lot of hills whose land can be utilized as the basic ingredients of brick making and the more days the demand for bricks more and more because of the many new buildings in my city. This business allows me to play a role in protecting the environment because it can utilize waste from other factories as raw material for making bricks such as ash from plywood factory waste, in addition this business can also provide jobs for the surrounding community so that they do not have to go far to the big city to get a job.
Until now I have 4 employees to help make bricks, on average I can produce 1500 - 2000 pcs of bricks per day and after going through the combustion process sold at a price of IDR 500 per piece, in 1 month I can sell 25000 - 35000 pcs of brick with a net profit of around IDR 7.500.000 per month, I am grateful because of this effort can meet the needs of the family, pay the salaries of employees and pay the Zidisha installment on time. With more demand for bricks it will require me to work harder to meet market demand and to provide more jobs. My full time employees work from Monday to Saturday each week and off on weekends so they can take time out to rest and get together with their families, I want to create a comfortable working environment so they can work well

Loan Proposal

Year-end brick sales and by early 2018 increased mainly due to the rapid development in my area, so I have to be able to produce more bricks in order to meet market demand and certainly will require more labor as well.
The basic ingredients of brick making are soil, sand, ash and firewood to burn the bricks to be ready for sale. I need zidisha loan to buy the raw materials so that my brick production will be smoother and I can pay the salaries of the employees on time in addition to meeting the needs of the family.

    Greetings Lenders.
This is a process of burning bricks which is done 24 hours non-stop, this work is done by 2 people (2 sides of burning) on a shift basis, we have to keep the fire to stay normal (not too big and not too small) so that the bricks can mature perfect (marked bright red and not easy to crack).
    Thank you

    Greetings Lenders.
I try to run a business in an environmentally friendly way. For example is the use of firewood as shown below, this is the waste wood from the plywood factory that they have thrown away but I can use to burn the bricks that have been dry to mature.
The price for this waste is also cheaper than other types of firewood so I can save on production costs. Thank you

    Greetings Lenders.
I want to give an update about my brick business progress, the process of burning bricks some time ago is not so smooth because the rain fell quite swift when the burning took place so that the fire temperature is not optimal and make some black bricks so it can not be sold to consumers, although later this immature brick can be burned back in the next burning process but this will increase the workload again.

Even so, we keep the spirit because there are no obstacles that can not be overcome as long as we keep trying to the maximum.
Thank you for all your support!

    Wahyu,
wish you all the best in your brick business.

Here is a suggestion - when you drape the plastic sheet over bricks, it will get worn out quickly at the corners where the plastic will rub against bricks. If you are not already doing it, you can put small pieces of burlap/some such thick cloth on corners and rough edges. Should not take you more than 10 mins for a pile but will help reduce wear and tear of plastic sheet.

      Hello Joshi.
Thank you very much for your suggestion and loan support.
I will try to discuss your suggestions with my employees, your idea is very brilliant because this will make the plastic more durable from damage due to friction between the plastic with the brick.
But one thing that can not be avoided is the age or endurance of the plastic, because however the longer the plastic will get easier fragile (age factor, often exposed to heat and rain because Indonesia is a tropical country).
For now, a set of plastic covers can usually last up to a maximum of 3-4 months before being replaced with new plastic.
1 set of plastic can be used for 2 rows of bricks (as in the picture below). until now I still have not found an alternative cover of bricks other than plastic, which has a longer durability and more practical.
I am very interested in discussing with other Zidisha members (from Indonesia or other countries) who have similar business so that they can share knowledge and experience in managing brick business, or maybe you have alternative suggestion of brick cover besides plastic?

        Wahyu,
weather damage is mainly due to sunlight. Next would be combination of heat and humidity. 'weather resistant' sheets of many types are available. But would of course be costly. If they cost 3 times more, they have to last at least for a year to break even with current covers (that you say last for 3-4 months). Additionally, they might withstand weather very well but if they get torn, they will have to be replaced.

How much do you spend on current covers?
Do you have to cover/uncover often?
If for, say, half of the brick piles, you need not remove cover for at least a week - would spreading burlap/thick rag type cloth over plastic be too much work?

Just trying to come up with some ideas for you. :-)

        Hello Joshi.
Yes you are right, sunlight makes the plastic becomes brittle so easily torn plus the combination of rain that often goes down.
The weather in Indonesia is currently very difficult to predict even this year we have a fairly long rainy season, when the dry season is sometimes still rain.
When it rains sometimes accompanied by strong winds that make this plastic cover opened, this can give a considerable loss because the raw bricks that are exposed to rain will crumble when burned so it can not be sold to consumers.
The price of a set of plastic covers is about $ 10, this can only cover 1 or 2 rows of bricks that are being dried.
Cover and uncover process done every day, because as I mentioned above, the weather in Indonesia is very difficult to predict, the rainy season is very long and the rain can go down suddenly even in the dry season.
We can not possibly not open this cover for up to 1 week because this will greatly affect the process of draining raw bricks, in order to burn and produce strong bricks then the raw bricks must be perfectly dry, if it is too wet or even too dry then the bricks will crumble when burned (easily broken).

This drying process takes about 3 days when the weather is nice, but it can take a long time when the rainy season so affect the burning schedule and distribution of bricks to consumers.

Until now I still think about the kind of cover and how to cover the better bricks.
        Thank you

    Greetings lenders and Zidisha team.
I hope you all are in good health.
Thank you very much for the loans that have been given to date, God Almighty will definitely repay the good of you all.
I also hope that my current loan can be fully funded so that it can help smooth my business.
One of the purposes of using this loan is to buy some plastic brick coverings as some of the plastics have begun to tear so new plastics are needed to protect the bricks that are being dried from the sudden rain.
    Thank you

    Greetings Lenders and Zidisha.
Thanks to God Almighty because my health has recovered so that I can participate in running brick production with other employees.
The weather in Indonesia is sunny again because now it has entered the dry season, the drying process of raw bricks become faster so that the brick production cycle becomes more smoothly.
This is a row of raw bricks we just produced, these bricks will be moved out of the room for drying process to dry so ready to be burned into bricks that ready to sale.
Thanks Zidisha for the added spirits given....
