About Me

My name is John from Zambia and I am a social entrepreneur.

I have commercial qualifications in Business Administration and Law with a professional work experience that includes working in the renewable energy sector and as a program development specialist (SRHR and HIV/ AIDs). I am passionate about public health particularly safe motherhood. I want to spend the majority of my time helping Zambia achieve key indicators under United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) especially 3 (3.1 and 3.2), 17 (partnerships to achieve goals) and any other SDGs in between including financing the health workforce.

My Business

What if ONE Mama’s Moments Maternity Kit could create behavioural change for the pregnant mother by encouraging early antenatal booking, increase male partner involvement in antenatal and post natal services, ensure a livelihood opportunity for the community health volunteer, ensure a flow of health information to the pregnant woman and provide for a safe delivery?

My business is simple;- Using the Mama’s Moments Brand, I aspire to offer convenience to pregnant mothers. Unlike the competition, I will have the right products for them and really want to share in their joyous experience. The Mama's Moments brand is a home-grown comprehensive health initiative formulated to tackle the challenges of maternal mortality and morbidity in Zambia. It is a brand promoted by Maurice Gregory Agencies Limited- a family-run start-up social business dedicated to developing innovative products for the mother and child health market. I started by developing subsidized maternity kits for the pregnant mothers, then re/training and economically empowering community health volunteers through entrepreneurship so that they have a livelihood by selling the maternity kit to the pregnant mothers to health promotions- road shows and displays in market places promoting early antenatal, male involvement and facility delivery and the 5 Golden Rules of COVID Prevention!

Loan Proposal

Every money raised will help us assemble our subsidized Maternity Kit and each one of our Maternity Kits will work towards helping Zambia achieve UN SDGs, especially 3 (Health- reduction in maternal and health indicators including financing the work force especially in the maternal and infant segment) by 2030. This will mean poor pregnant mothers will be to access clean delivery kits and enhance a safe delivery experience. It will also mean that she will be able to have a flow of information that will help her in making decisions about her delivery. Further, her male partner will get involved in ante natal and post natal care. Subsequently, this will mean that the issues women face when trying to access safe childbirth will greatly reduced.

Even more importantly, as it will be cheaper than the competition, pregnant mothers will avoid crowded places and reduce the risk of catching COVID 19!

Thank you very much for your support. This funding will help me increase my economic support to 3/4 Community Health Volunteers. I will be able to assemble some more clean delivery packs called Mama's Moments Maternity Kits for them to resale at a profit.

I have been an advocate of safe motherhood since 2018. My project has been looking at economically empowering community health volunteers. The last project made me be recognised by the District Health Office. And they have engaged me to Pilot a SMAG Sustainability Project to 70 Community Health Volunteers in the District.

Thank you for making this Project possible.

The whole idea of this project is: What if ONE Mama’s Moments Maternity Kit could create behavioural change for the pregnant mother by encouraging early ante natal booking, increase male participation, ensure a financing mechanism for safe motherhood action groups, ensure a flow information to pregnant mothers and provide for a safe delivery? What if?
The amount of money will help me with Transportation and Facilitation Costs to engage more SMAGs and health officials.
And again, thank you very much for your help.

My previous project allowed me to engage more community health workers. It has reached a point where I have a Letter from the local district health office asking me to engage 60 more community health workers. More pregnant mothers are using my services and I am glad.

Hello everyone. I am sorry that I could not make payments as promised. A combination of factors really, as I had started so well. (Business was slow than expected and I have been stuck with inventory coupled with one of work colleagues leaving resulting in one place closing during the times ante natal mothers were visiting health facilities. In addition, I have been unwell and just got back on the 22/11/2021). As I am full time now, I will work extra hard to make sure that all is cleared ASAP. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Thank you for your support. This Loan will mean that I will have a new branded booth, and stock for that booth. Not only will my business be expanding, it also means that more pregnant mothers will have access to our affordable clean delivery Kits.

Before raising a Loan on Zidisha, I was selling 3-5 Mama's Moments Maternity Kits per week. Right now, after the loans I have raised, I am able to resell 10+ Kits per week. My team has increased to two Customer Service Representatives who also help me with assembling these Kits on a Saturday. During the week, they help me with manning the Spaza (Booth) in Chawama and Kanyama West and also with extra deliveries to the community health volunteers who sell our Kits for income generation. So, there is a positive change not just in my life but also the lives of others. I believe that my Mama's Moments Maternity Kits are fulfilling their motto of (i) creating behavioural change for the pregnant mother by encouraging early antenatal booking
(ii) increasing male participation in ante natal and post natal services
(iii) ensuring a livelihood opportunity for the marginalized in society,
(iv) ensuring a flow of health information to the pregnant woman and provide for a safe delivery.

Hello from Zambia. Yes, funds were received, Kits assembled and more pregnant mothers were able to access our cost effective Mama's Moments birthing kits. I requested for this amount to reduce my movements between shops- and the money and time saved has been reinvested in the business by buying more inventory for the month end rush. Thank you again for your support!!

Thank you very much for the support. From these funds, more Maternity Kits will be assembled saving me hopefully two days of going into town to buy supplies. As I will be saving this extra day, it will translate into more revenue and more profit in my business. In addition, it will mean that more pregnant mothers will be able to access our subsidized Maternity Kits.

With my previous loan, I was able to brand a spaza (booth) at a public health facility. Pregnant mothers are now able to make small payments towards the purchase of their already subsidized Mama's Moments Maternity Kit. A school leaver was employed as a Customer Service Representative.

To my lenders, thank you for your part in my aspirations. I did receive the money. More Kits were assembled and a booth (spaza) in Chawama was branded so that pregnant women can access our already affordable Mama's Moments Maternity Kit. Thank you very much.

To my lenders, I thank you for you believing in my abilities. From this round of funding, I will find a spaza (booth) in Chawama and extend our distribution of our subsidized Mama's Moments Maternity Kits there. It will be an opportunity for a community health volunteer to earn a livelihood through commissions and for a youth to gain the much needed work experience. Finally, it will be an opportunity for more pregnant mothers access the very cheap Kit!!

To my lenders, thank you for the previous loans. So far (since my start), I have empowered two (2) community health volunteers in two different health facilities with an opportunity to gain a livelihood through commission generated from them selling our Mama's Moments Maternity Kit. These two have spoken to just over 200 pregnant mothers, empowering them with essential health information so that they can actively manage and enjoy their pregnancy. ( I will get a video soon- just working on adding English subtitles to it)!!

With my first ever Loan on Zidisha, I assembled 3 Mama's Moments Maternity Kits which a Community Health Volunteer helped me sale for a commission. During the repayment period, I managed to raise the number of Kits to 8. Also during the same period, the Community Health Volunteer managed to talk to 87 new pregnant mothers- recipients of quality health information from the community health volunteer.

    Hello my first ever lender-

Thank you very much! I received the $14 early this morning, at 8.00am. And by 8:48, I had given a community health worker (volunteer) an opportunity to earn a livelihood by earning a commission on three Mama's Moments Maternity Kits which were assembled from the funds that she sold on my behalf at an antenatal session. This was after she had shared safe motherhood information with them and three first time pregnant mothers accessed Maternity Kits at a very affordable price. Tomorrow, we will go again after assembling some more! Again, thank you very much....
