My name is Lilian Wanyonyi. I am from Kenya in the northern part of rift valley, on Kenyan highlands. I am the third born in a family of six. And the family we have is great. I schooled in a rural school through my primary school and so going to school was not a luxury, it was through hard times of lack of fees and shoes. I used to lack books even to write on and so this affected my performance because we lacked the revision books to refer to. The farm we lived in was so small and so we could not practice agriculture to feed the whole family. Most of the times we could go and do manual jobs to enable us get some money to buy food and if it’s a bit more, we could buy clothes and school books. I had both parents but my father is the one who used to go out to do farming jobs so that he can get money for our upkeep. After primary school. Joining high school was not easy as the fee was so high that I delayed by one month. A fund raising was done which facilitated my going to school. The ups and down were many but God saw me through it. Because I used the bursary/scholarship money to attend high school.
After high school. Joining college was hard and so I got some causal job which helped me earn some money to help me and my siblings. I managed to save some and thereafter attended college on a part time basis. After college I looked for a job. The few I got were short term and so it helped me save after 6 months of working and doing a small business of stationery, i wish to upgrade my learning to undergraduate in purchasing and supplies management at my home university. I believe after finishing my undergraduate which am almost due to support you helped me improve my business, i will be able to get some employment which will help me improve my life and also support my existing business and also i will be able to young people like me. The small money I have been getting has helped me to enroll to undergraduate course that lam about to finish. After one year of operation I can now say it was the best decision I ever made. I expanded the business with $100. The challenges were , political, trying to get clients and marketing my business. The other challenge was the people who took exams and had to pay after one month, they didn’t pay cash. Because of lack of enough capital it affected my business for a while though I still can supply a big order to school because of improved cash though not so much. Most of my clients are Schools. I sell stationeries and school examinations. Most of the work is sourced from the publisher and then we distribute and sell to schools especially primary schools. The market has been available and so is the demand. The business is great and I enjoy doing it as it helps to pay me and also cater for my siblings needs. As at now the business has a capital of $550 dollars and I am believing that with Zidisha giving me opportunity to improve my studies i will get extra income from a good employment will be able to improve the capital and expand my business hit a capitalization of $3,000 by the end of the next year.
I am Requesting for a loan of $100 from Zidisha to help me increase capitalization for my stationery and exam business. This business has a big opportunity for growth based on the way it has performed for the last two years. From the initial capital of $80 to the present $400. I see room for growth as I plan on increasing the supply of exams to schools and also venturing in retail sale of books to parents and students. Currently there are some clients I don’t sell to because I lack enough money to buy stock and this affects my chance of growth. I know with your funding I can serve those clients whom I have been missing.
The money for repayment will come from the profit I make from the sale of exams and stationeries. I do hope you will consider my application.
Below is the distribution of how I will spend my money.
• Exam stock= $60
• Stationeries = $50
