I am Eunice Atieno, 35 years old, Kenyan citizen. Am married with five children. My husband is a fisherman and am trading on dried fish for sale to local residents of Mbita Township.
I grew up in a very loving family though I didn't continue with my education to High School level due to peer pressure! I dropped from school when I was 16 years old and got married at the age of 18. Life in Marriage was very hard and since my husband did not have steady income, I had to start a business to supplement my family income. I have now operated the business for 3 years and I have build a strong interest for the business.
I am a small scale dried fish trader mostly selling to the ultimate consumer, as my business has not expanded enough to make me a supplier. I mostly trade in dry fish, namely maize, rice, beans, green grams and lentils, to name a few.
I conducted some market research and did due diligence whereby I discovered that food products are very unlikely to lack a market because they are basic necessities. The target group for such kind of commodities is virtually everyone. Another motivation is that I wanted to contribute in food security and ensure it is done so by ensuring that my customers are always well supplied. I also need to operate with a license and the backing of the health sector, as the handling of food items is a sensitive matter. My monthly revenue is $ 90 on average and comes purely from selling the fish and grains. My monthly costs go up to $40 on average, giving me a profit of around $ 50 per month. This profit goes towards my savings, my children education and meeting my family's expenses. I look forward to having a stable family in future as well.
With this loan I will be able to purchase extra stock to meet my customers demand, which keeps on growing every day. I will buy the goods from farmers directly who sell at subsidized prices. I will then sell them at retail hence boosting my profit margin.
I also look forward to expand my stall premise which will have sheltered my goods from rainfall and sun rays. I also plan to employ at least one person who will assist me with looking after the shop while I am away to collect more stock. Hence creating job opportunities to empower the community.
I can assure you I will be submitting my weekly repayment promptly as stated in Zidisha terms and conditions. Thank you for your kind support.
