About Me

My name is Jocinta Wesonga, I was born in 1964 in Busia County, Kenya. I currently live with my husband in Rusinga Island (Lake Victoria) of Mbita Sub County having migrated from the Busia County to seek business opportunity in Mbita for income.

I come from a family of five, which includes my deceased two parents (mother and father), my little brother, and my little sister. I had the opportunity to go to school but I wasn't able to get very far. I dropped out in the seventh grade since I didn't have the means to continue my studies after the death of my parents, so I wasn't able to get my high school diploma. Having dropped from school, I ventured in grains business as it's a business with good returns.

In my free time and especially on the weekends, I do join with women in my Rusinga community to raise funds (Table Banking) to support our individual businesses.

My Business

A few years after leaving school for lack of funds, I started a business selling bananas, oranges, and peanuts. I conduct business in front of the market yard in Mbita Town. I start selling in the evening around 4:00 P.M. and finish at about 9:00 or 9:30 P.M. I run this business to bring in revenue to meet my basic needs and often those of my family in food, health care, and clothing.

The business is doing very well and I have a strong, reliable network of clients who believes on my fresh on farm products. I look forward to capitalizing on this goodwill to expand my business further using the loan funds raised from the ZIDISHA platform.

Loan Proposal

I will use Zidisha loan of US$100 as follows;

-US$30 to buy 2 crates of tomatoes and sale at US$40 (getting a profit of US$10) in one week..

-$30 to buy 20Kgs of green vegetables (Kales) and sell at US$50 (Getting a profit of US$ 20).

- US$40 to buy assorted items like; onions, tomatoes, avocadoes and sell with a projected profit of US$30.

The 1st loan of ZIDISHA will give me a profit of US$50 per week. In 4 weeks, I project a profit of US$200.

Kindly lend me because by doing so you will add my profit by 50% hence my living standard will improve and the proceeds from the business will help me educate my children and feed my family.

    Hello Jacinta. You've been on the lower installments for several weeks now - are you able to increase them at all yet? This would help to free up some more money for other borrowers if you could. If you can't, that's fine, but please keep us informed of what's happening.
    God bless you,
    Wendy
